Seeing the skeletons in Hyrule Field at night freaked me out as a kid for sure. I think it's the way they crawl up out of the ground to ambush you as a group.

I first played Trials Evolution on my 360 in college and it quickly became one of my favorite games. I've played it (and the sequel, Trials Fusion) on and off ever since. Today, I finally reached a major milestone: platinum medals (0 faults) on every track spanning Trials HD, Evolution, and Fusion.

I rarely stream anymore, but that's still a solid chunk of content to export. Really rough look that Twitch didn't provide better tooling to support this announcement. I have to manually track exports in Notepad.

Spent the day redoing my office, primarily to fit the 1440p, 144 hz monitor a friend was kind enough to give me (it's the one in the center). Ended up being quite a bit more work than expected (including a trip to buy vice grips), but I'm happy with the results!

My sculpting in Blender has improved a lot in recent years, especially for faces and clothing!

Saw the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra this evening in the concert hall that was under construction while I was a student at UW-Madison. Beautiful space in there. Been a minute since I've been to a live orchestra.

Little late to the party, but thank you @garethcoker.bsky.social and @lena.fyi for continuing to be phenomenal composers. I spend most of my day listening to video game music while I work.

I've been using this map to build out character physics. It's intended to stress test a number of unusual scenarios, like pushing into acute walls while moving uphill or clipping inside floors and failsafe'ing back up or traversing very steep slopes. Lotta wrinkles to iron out, but I'm close.

Been spending lots of time programming character movement lately (i.e. physics), which also means spending lots of time in Paint. If anyone ever asks how high school geometry is useful in the real world, here's how.

Madison can be really pretty sometimes.

Re: game dev, my engine (written using Beef and Vulkan) is in a better place than it's ever been. Recently, I've been investigating approaches to lighting that avoid many artifacts present in techniques like shadow maps. While I keep working, here's a character I sculpted in October:

Sent in my absentee ballot roughly a month ago, but worth re-posting now. Remember to vote if you haven't already! It's important!

A collection of trees I saw on my wall today. Fall rocks.

With an influx of new users, I'm Grim. My background is in software development and music. I've been an on-and-off speedrunner for years, including numerous GDQ appearances. Currently, I'm working full-time as a solo indie developer using a custom 3D engine, aiming for a commercial release on Steam.

Believe it or not, these simple shapes represent two months of work rolling ECS and Vulkan in a custom 3D engine. Not glamorous for sure, but I'm proud of the results anyway. You'll have to take my word for it that the underlying systems are capable of a lot more.

Happy to see Bluesky growing. Twitter, despite its flaws, remains a very useful website, so I'm happy to see a potential replacement gain a bigger foothold.

More Blender practice. This sculpt took roughly two hours. Tried to apply some of the lessons from my Link tunic earlier this week, particularly using Blender's multiresolution modifier.

Cloth practice in Blender. Took roughly an hour to sculpt, mostly spent on wrinkles and folds. Pretty proud since I've struggled with clothing so far.

Here are the numbers if you're curious. Most interesting is Ana, where my three lowest win percentages and my three lowest total games overlap, which is also true when looking at ALL heroes. That said, Ashe and Orisa don't fit that pattern, so jury's still out.

In season 11 (which is roughly halfway over), I'm sitting at a 39.865% win rate over 148 games, which supports my intuition as stated above (that the matchmaker is placing me in losing matches more frequently than usual).

Prototype for a Sokoban-style puzzle game around a cube. The snails here are 3D models rendered orthographically, with portions stenciled out for improved silhouettes. Baba Is You is a major inspiration.

After weeks of work, my Rust game engine is finally building again.
