Complexity Theorist who's been trying to warn you of all about this shit for over a decade now.
It's something that would easily be capable of splitting the US apart, imo.

Any state that wanted to avoid the mass casualties would have to combat extremists in their state and the federal government, and literally close their borders to the rest of the country.

For sure, especially the UK.

We've been talking about potentially coming back.. I don't think the collapse will be as chaotic & violent there.

But if the AMOC fails, I don't fancy the idea of dealing with a 10C drop. That's kind of insane.

Where abouts are you in the US?

I feel like it will probably be a very uneven process. That states will diverge until the US splits apart. Could take decades, or could start soon.. timing is impossible with such complexity.

But the trends are certainly very, very bad.

There have been some novel and good aspects - being able to freely publish even radical shit, more freedom of expression, etc - but it's been acting as a screen behind which is some truly dark shit, both systemically, and in the Wests actions abroad, both of which are now coming home to roost.

I wrote something long form on it recently, how my thoughts about it have evolved.

Yes, he committed genocide.

And?

Huh, you'd think they'd be able to see a fuckin plane coming at them regardless of air traffic control.

Neocolonialist neofascists

Vs

Hypernationalist fascists

Maybe from the rubble, the left can emerge as the only people both vindicated, and free of blame.

It's already happened before, just over longer periods.

How many people knew basics of farming 1000 years ago?

How many do today?

Industrialisation & specialisation has drastically reduced core skills in a majority of people.

This is why the West is actually uniquely fucked wrt climate change.
