hmm. TWINE, perhaps? from twinery.org or maybe Ren'py? at renpy.org Twine focuses more on CYOA-style narratives with mostly text, and minimal coding. Ren'py has a little bit of a learning curve, but once you pick it up, it gets a little easier to do the basic stuff for a VN or Kinetic Novel.

ah, as a fan of non-gory stuff, I can't say I ever watched the Saw series ;) Although I did watch Friday the 13th (series and movies) and Stephen King's It and all that back in the day ;)
