Nothing crazy, but we’ve never broached OOP/IP systems before. From 9v9 to now we’ve only played within a rigid framework, although we’ve exposed them to a bunch of different formations. Really impressed with how they took to it.

For the nerds: concept was transitioning from a 4-2-3-1 out of possession into a 3-4-2-1/3-4-3 in possession, with the RB pushing high/wide, LB sliding over to create the back three, and the right wing tucking in to create a box midfield in the middle/attacking third.

I know I’m a good coach, but I also have a ton of self-doubt. Sometimes it feels like I’m banging my head against a wall. Sometimes I feel like I should just quit. It was really gratifying to hear that kind of feedback from my peers and my parents. Super stoked.

After training, one of the dads (who played college ball) came over and told me that was the best session he’s ever seen coached in my town. Both of my assistant coaches, who are far better players than I ever was, told me they could never lead a session like I did last night.
