Lichen is fabulous stuff. A powerful symbiotic relationship of fungus and algae/bacteria, with an immense toolkit of utility chemicals it can deploy to protect itself and customise its environment. Since they can reproduce by 'cloning', sending off parts of themselves, they are effectively immortal.

"Na gabh dragh" in Gaelic means "don't worry". Literally though, it means "don't take bother", because in Gaelic emotions, fears are things you wear, like a coat. They're not what you are. They don't define you. You can take them off.

The Japanese have the concept of forest-bathing, shinrinyoku. Washing yourself clean, with a dip into nature. Askham Bog is just the place!
