But there IS definitely double standards who gets reported on when in court, how they are reported on and that’s without the whole wider issue of who gets name suppression while they go through court (usually mostly pakeha men) and why they are granted it. Just these cases are bit more complicated.

Not defending their racist BS and non-apology, but in this particular instance the difference is due to name suppression orders from the court not Stuff’s decision. So they can’t identify the blurry guy as he’s still going through court while the other guys were sentenced and can be identified.

Luxon, that’s not a conversation. That’s a FSU meeting.

Was the text your words, or words Zuru used? (Just to clarify?)

I haven’t got a degree and I’m fully aware I probably will have to look at that at some point, and the idea of picking up student loans again (I took multiple years to pay off a year of study for a certificate) is scary.

I’m not against study for study’s sake but there should absolutely be a system for those retraining later in life who go/return to the field they studied for to get deductions of some sort on their loans (tbh with so many staffing shortages we should probably do this generally).

If you watch the video of the original Trump speech and the edit, it is actually a fair criticism. I don’t know WHY they edited it, the original already showed Trump inciting people on Jan 6. But the complaints otherwise are odd.

He can’t even get into hostels cause of bad credit & they’re all owned by the same peeps, and he doesn’t want to move away because all of his support systems are here. So, as he says, he’s just stuck. It’s just shit.

Oh this makes me angry. I was talking to my mate Dan, who’s been on the street in Welly since January and he was really hopeful recently of finding a place but it fell through and he’d just had a morning of making calls with no luck, and it was the most tired and sad I’ve seen him in ages.

Absolutely Herald editorialising. Eliminate is a STRONG word to use if you’re paraphrasing someone (you’ve got to always be careful you’re not putting words in people’s mouths). So if they *had* the option of putting it in quotes, they would have - which makes one assume otherwise. 😬

Tamahori directed an episode of the Sopranos, he came back to NZ and made Mahana (2016) and The Convert (2023). He was proud of Warriors but he, like all the actors that were part of it, have had many successes since and it’s ridiculous NZ media reduces people back to their first film 30 years ago.

He was more than that film. Did you know he directed Bond flick Die Another Day (2002)?
He’d first worked as boom operator, then became an assistant director for Geoff Murphy (Pork Pie etc) before he did Warriors, which again just shows the legacy that Murphy and Mereta Mita have had on NZ cinema.

Also, it shows workers are still taking fewer sick days than they are entitled to, there’s more of a story in that (ie coming to work sick/pressures from employers etc)…
