But I think it has been helpful to me, at least, to remember that the state has almost unilaterally been the enemy, since before the USA even existed, and enduring through our own moment. It’s people power that makes and breaks what is possible. Let’s hold on to that. There is no state without us.

We can and will thrive. Trans people, people of color, migrants, and so many more have found ways to figure this out for literally centuries. It’s not to say that this isn’t oppression— it is. It’s not to say that these aren’t targeted attacks— they are. It’s not to say that I’m not scared— I am. /3
