- The Darkness in the Crypt is the same as the Drogbar and Kobold Darkness. Additionally, it's the same as the crushing darkness in BFD.

#9 - The Antlers - Hospice
This one has been dear to me for years. We had many close calls with hard losses this year. I've been fortunate to support those I care about this year. A hard goodbye is the inevitability of love. Albums like this, while beautiful, are sonic sorrow but temper the soul.

#8 - Built to Spill - Keep It Like a Secret
Not even new to many, but was new to me this year. I'm amazed constantly of the troves of music I've enjoyed that has been there in front of me waiting to be found.

#7 - Creepy Nuts - Otonoke and Bling-Bang-Bang-Born
This is cheating, two songs, both of them are absolute masterpieces. Not an album, just two very mighty earworms.

#6 - Father John Misty - Mahashmashana
It's good in all of the ways it usually is. I didn't like "Screamland" the first time I heard it, and now I love it. The sound of ennui but paired with an understanding that nothing matters as a freeing truth.

#5 - WHY? - The Well I Fell Into
Growing old sucks, and sometimes the parts that suck are a muse. Marigold is a hard listen but it's true. If you're looking to sad it up, without going full Antlers, then this is bus to hop on.

#4 - Aesop Rock - Integrated Tech Solution
This man only makes good music. Put in ears. Let beat and lyrics do the rest. "100 Feet Tall" is the best anecdote about why meeting your heroes is sometimes exactly what you expect.

#3 - mewithoutyou - Ten Stories
These guys have always done special vignettes deep with introspective self critique. This album chronicling the adventures of escaped circus animals hits right.
