And everybody knows its a lie. Half of us are enraged by it, the other half feel they are in on the scheme, and it pulls them into the conspiracy orbit of the authoritarian. Lies do not have to be believed to be effective.

When your philosophy is that you must be seen to fight every battle, you end up dying on almost every hill. They see even the tiniest insult as intolerable and cannot see past it to any broader strategy. It is turning out to be a massive weakness, but they still see it as projecting strength.

Batman's position is not in disagreement with Robin's. Pointing out the absurdity of working full time and still being poor doesn't constitute an opinion on whether or not anyone should live in poverty.
