... and here's the Western Gull that almost killed me (seriously).

It's mind-boggling how much digital photography has changed things. I quite literally almost died getting pictures of this murre colony in Oregon in 1991, and at the time, it was considered a great shot (and published at least twice that I can remember).

I spent some time in the yard today hoping for some early hawk movement, but it was not to be, really. But, I did have a young Red-shouldered Hawk and an Osprey go over. Also, a female American Goldfinch landed in the Jo-Pye not 5 feet from where I was sitting.

While everyone is going gaga over some new bird movie, don’t forget the original Blockbuster Birding Bromance.

Got to spend some time with the now-famous Kelp Gull that has taken up residence, and nesting in Milwaukee Wisconsin, Tuesday. Sadly, the chick it was raising with an American Herring Gull has died ... but Kelpie was back at it, seen copulating with a Herring Gull yesterday.

It's a strange list to be sure. I got the second county record of Fish Crow, and one of the few co. records of Swainson's Hawk, and Golden Eagle (twice!) before Mallard and White-breasted Nuthatch.

I sat and watched the neighbor's honey locust tree for 2 hours this morning, and birds including Tennessee Warbler, Magnolia Warbler, Blackburnian Warbler, Least Flycatcher, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, and more moved through this one tree.

Hey all, especially @darthbluesky.bsky.social, thanks for all the Sammy love. Those pics of her ears up and down were taken about 8 years ago. Today she's a dignified old lady with arthritis and ongoing mailman issues.
