Control (1986) and Rhythm Nation (1989) were both recorded at Flyte Tyme in Minneapolis. I was not aware that Control was still charting even after Rhythm Nation was released. Both albums are just hit upon hit upon 80s sound hit.

To me, it's also interesting to connect these musical instrument innovations with the widespread adoption of television, all electric signal. I can't remember the interview but some guitar player said watching Buddy Holly with a Strat on the Ed Sullivan show was like watching someone play a UFO.
