Waiting on that sweet apple wine/cider industry to sprout in italy! Probably once italians learn to eat apples with the skin on…

I totally agree. The trick is getting as much of the infrastructure to be as inoperable as possible (e.g.: the height and length of platforms). In practice, it looks like it’s pretty difficult.

Yes. The the origin-destination dataset gives averages between station pairs by hour and day of week. You can roll that up to the total system averages.

I see a lot of cars parked on the sidewalk, especially outside of firehouses, so it could definitely cause damage but shouldn’t be impossible

It’s crazy the differences in station quality on the cumana. Edenlandia versus this new station is night and day. I didn’t know there was modernization going on for the cumana. Better late than never!

Ah you’re right. I was thinking of the lines as a whole.

Metro-North’s main artery between Grand Central and Fordham should cross the line, too. It’s around 250K riders per day split in 3 branches.

That being said, I’m encouraged that there’s a contingency plan in place. Providing SOME service in 2017 will be nice — even if there’s a ton of incompetency involved behind the scenes

They should be done, at a minimum, when repaving/fixing existing infrastructure. It’s insane that we don’t have even a medium-term vision to do these things

The geographic divide in this is fascinating! I definitely would not have expected the Center+East v. West divide. I wonder if government attitudes are part of the reason for official differences - many riders note the difference between the official and in practice boarding procedures

I believe the percentage of fares collected is around 20% once you account for the 55% who don’t swipe/tap at all and the 25% who are transferring from another subway/bus. That, along with the reduced dwell times mean the MTA isn’t losing much with free (non-express) buses.

It’s funny because when I was in Italy I made the same remark about the number of Italian police departments. I think I was both blind to the number of police forces in the US and that some of the police groups in Italy are really just divisions within the same, unified police force.

I read in a planning document that they’re looking to short turn trains at 2nd Avenue. If so, I wonder if any 10 car train sets will be used to help with rush hour capacity.

The only difference being that it terminates at Wakefield instead of 148th St for its northern terminal

This configuration would be AMAZING. Thank you for putting together what a proposal would look like because there’s no way what we have right now is ideal
