Oddly remarkable.

"Art In Wonderland" is an unexpectedly great interactive video encounter in Takashimaya's Kyoto departo.

There are more than a dozen different video installations, each one different. This was as good as some mock-up presentations that i used to do at Imagineering.

Never been to Nagoya, but I went, to see Kent Nishimura.

He's performing in a rare concert, and was brilliant. I've been following him for a few years, but never thought I'd see him live. Nagoya is a 30 minute Shinkansen ride away from Kyoto, so...

Izuju

Met up with three friends at Izuju for the classic Kyoto-style dinner. We chose 5 things, and they presented it to us, all items grouped together on an antique platter. Masterful.

Kyoto. Back in Kyoto for a few months.

Met my friends Scott and Hillary at the Kitano Tenmangu Shrine for the monthly Tenjin market. Hundreds of vendors; i've never walked all the vendors, and certainly didn't this time, even with Scott and Hillary. So much to see.

Imagerie D'Epinal

While running errands, I saw a pile of these cardboard model pages, pre-WWII, France. So cheap, i got a dozen different buildings...Chinoiserie pagodas, mosques, fountains, Chateaus, and some anthropomorphic monkey motion cut outs. Really detailed. I got them scanned...

Wandering the Huntington is always wonderful...

My friend Louise was able to get tickets to the opening day of Don Bacardi: A Life In Portraits, at the Huntington Gardens.

It was better than I thought. I've always known of Don Bacardi as the young lover of Christopher Isherwood.

Oh. Some friends have messaged me, curious to see the full "General Sherman" painting by Ryden. Here ya go...

The face in Mark Ryden's portrait of the General Sherman Sequoia is haunting.

Went in for some minor dental surgery yesterday. Needed to close the gap where a molar had been extracted and never closed up. Glad to get it done, and the surgeon finished it with a lot of stitches. Healing well!

Another postcard day in L.A.

I see this view every day, now that I'm renting a little room in East LA. It's on one of those tiny, winding streets in the hills above the extensive campus of Cal State Los Angeles.

A free day at D'land today!

My friend Tom said "hey, let's go to Disneyland for lunch!"

Tom signed me in, and went to the Harbor Galley for the seafood, i took more photos of the new Leota Toombs-Thomas portrait in the Haunted Mansion's gift shop, we rode Pirates. A short afternoon, but waay fun.

Having grown up in LA, all my life i've seen this block-long monumental temple on Wilshire. The Masons eventually sold it, and it was turned into a museum.

Oddly, most of the inside has been gutted down to the steel structure. But some of the original, odd splendor remains.

Favorite place for brunch, Canter's!

And that ceiling. That god-awful, grating, clashing ceiling. I absolutely love it.

And some Girl Scouts selling cookies outside.

Scott invited me to the PST Art Open House at the Wilshire Ebell Theater. What a jewel of Los Angeles is the Wilshire Ebell.

Interesting selection of lectures and a great book market. I got an amazing book on Automations, and another of the dioramas in the LA Natural History museum

Thank you, everyone! So many kind wishes for my happy day. Yes!

It's my 16.25th day. I'll celebrate it at that brief, midnight moment between Feb 28 n Mar 1. You're all so sweet.

I'm so charmed by Target's current Easter craft stuff. These big black butterflies are fantastic, and they're $5!!! Each.

They're supposed to be costume wings, but hanging 3 or 5 from your ceiling is inspired.

You can make a stained glass butterfly!

Yesterday, met Louise at the Huntington for lunch and wandering.

My favorite was seeing the monumental sculpture: Zenobia in Chains by Harriet Goodhue Hosmer. Spectacular piece.

Went to Musso's a few days ago...no reservations needed...only a 10 min. wait for the counter. Eating at the counter at Musso's is pure performance art. Got the salad chiffonade, and the risotto. Delish!

Adore the portrait of Lee Thomas as the Mansion's madame, before that whole crystal ball incident.

The Mystic

Finally saw this 1925 silent film, directed (and written) by Todd Browning. I liked its depiction of phony ghost effects. Fun.

What's fascinating is that Browning would later go on to make Dracula...and Freaks...
