Nice! A couple of ideas to add to it: One (shown nicely in the film Sliding Doors) is that diverged paths can actually lead to approximately the same place in the future.
Second, sometimes what we perceive as a missed opportunity can actually turn out to be a blessing in disguise! (And vice versa!)

I guess we have to balance that risk against the desire to see user numbers drop on X.
And thanks for the domain tip too - I had read about it but wasn't sure how much difference it would make. I guess it's a good idea. (I'm stronger on biology ;))
