Finished "Tigana" by Guy Gavriel Kay. It was a monster of a book, high fantasy. Very good, but I don't know it I'll read it again.

Finished "The Haunting of Blackwood House" by Darcy Coates. This author not only has the 'haunted house' genre down to a science, she's also raised it to an artform.

Hey, artists, in case you were wondering if your work matters: I'm a scientist working on climate change and biodiversity, and I would not be who I am today without The Lorax, The Secret of NIMH, Watership Down, The Last Unicorn, and The X-Files. I know I'm not alone. Thank you for all you do.

Finished 'Dracula", by Bram Stoker. I knew the vague storyline, but this was my first time reading it. I really enjoyed how it was a series of letters and diary entries, instead of a usual style of story.

Finished "Black Powder War" by Naomi Novak. Number 3 in a series I just can't get enough of; watching Temeraire grow is a joy.

Excited to go to writing club tonight!

Finishes "Mistborn" by Brandon Sanderson. I enjoyed the unique magic system, and the budding found family.

Finished "Discordant Memories", by Dee Rollings. It's not the kind of thing I usually read, with nothing fantasy or supernatural, but her characters drew me in and held me tight.

Finished 'Heavenly Tyrant', by Xiran Jay Zhao. Just as good as the first book, had me biting my nails every chapter. MFC is 100lbs of righteous fury in a 20lb bag.

I finished part 1 of my 2nd draft!

Hi @scalzi.com, I'm writing a story with light sci-fi elements. If you have the time, can you offer me any advice regarding writing?

Finished "Iron Widow" by Xiran Jay Zhao. I read it once before in 2023, and in preparing to read the sequel, I discovered I didn't remember as much about it as I thought. Enjoyed it again, though. Very stubborn main character (affectionate)

Finished "Crooked Kingdom" by Leigh Bardugo. It's the sequel to "Six of Crows" and had me chewing my nails for the last 100 pages. I now love fantasy heists.

Finished reading my first book of the year! Very good, loved the illustrations. Cant wait to see Fitz become awesome. On an unrelated note, I now need the other 2 books in this trilogy.

Got a gift! I'm loving it!

Finished "Bunny" by Mona Awad. This was Mean Girls on shrooms; it's written in that modern literature style. Would absolutely read again.

Finished "Redwall", by Brian Jaques. It's a cross between Watership Down and The Lord of The Rings. I really enjoyed it, but I don't understand the size differences between the characters. Still a fun read.

Kraken of Eden, by George Moakley. If you like the Alien franchise, you'll enjoy this one. A lot of science, but easy to understand. And that epilogue took me out.

TV time with Lucky!

My latest read: Curious Tides by Pascale Lacelle. Pretty good, less world-building than magic-lore-building, but that's okay. The magic was more than interesting enough, and I really feel for the main character, who just wants her best-friend back.

Finished! The Beautiful Ones, by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. I've read 2 other books by her, both dealing with supernatural type stuff. This one was different. Had vibes more similar to Jane Austin's stuff. Still good, though.
