Green Blanket

Literally a green blanket (sentient). Random thoughts. Refugee from the bad place where I was slightly less anonymous.
The BBC pubishing a "both sides" article about a man with a long history of sickening violence, with eulogies about what a great guy he is aside from his murderous rage. Is there really no editorial process at that organisation any more?

The two sides of Liverpool parade attacker Paul Doyle
For 32 years Paul Doyle lived a blameless life, but in his past were signs of a violent temper.

There's a "take" that the AI bubble is a good thing because what will be left behind will have made it all worth it, like the railroads, or the internet.
I think a better analogy is the push for commercial supersonic air travel in the mid 20th century. The outcome was Concorde.

It seems to me that the veneration of Trump for his role in the Gaza ceasefire is indicative of how swathes of people have lost the abilty to view events in the context of the past and to envisage ways the past and present may inform the future. To them, life is a sequence of standalone vignettes.

Do what you love, they say, and you will never work again. But why should I submit what I love to the capitalist impulse? The life force within the things I love evaporates as soon as they brush up against commodification.

When I have a skype call and there's dirt positioned on the screen over someone's face, I have to wipe it off. But it then feels like I am carressing that person's face. It makes me uncomfortable.

My favourite residues are (in this order):
* Scallop
* Bacon

* Wood glue

What’s your favourite residue?

"What happened in this person's life to make them evil?" is the wrong question.
I think the right question is this: "What didn't happen in this person's life, such that they failed to become good?".

Imagine if you and your spouse went upstairs to bed, and found two apparently identical versions of yourselves already in your bed. They get indignant and in no small measure frightened to see themselves walk in the room.
That would be weird wouldn’t it.

I think of this quote at least once a week: “Good men and bad men alike are capable of weakness. The difference is simply that a bad man will be proud all his life of one good deed - while an honest man is hardly aware of his good acts, but remembers a single sin for years on end.”

I wonder if the reason zombie movies are popular is that they're a way for us to fantasise about a world where all the meaningless crap has been stripped from our lives and we can focus on the only thing that actually matters: living.
