yesterday, read @benegotherit.bsky.social's Lessons in Birdwatching end to end while traveling. delightfully nasty scifi that starts in "grad school sucks" territory and quickly unravels with escalation that reminds me of Gibson. recommended for those of us who like where "bad" protagonists take us!

i don't wanna send people after the person who posted this because they're good people but this take is nonsense for several reasons, maybe most of all that three out of four of these made consumers inconquerably furious and none of the four could be successfully franchised afterward

when i say "disney has become incompetent at making movies" i'm mostly talking about how mismanagement is leading to insane budgets that feel low rent compared to competitors spending half. bizarre!

i know "hollywood accounting" is always insane but disney making movies that cost twice as much as their competitors is insane when they don't even hire songwriters who have written for a musical before. menken's still alive! the lopez's tv show got cancelled!
