Second go at this tonight, having convinced myself a few months back that it caught me on a bad day. It's a sort of anti-Elephant, but one in which much of the action doesn't engage me at all. Breaks my heart to be down on an Akerman, who in my eyes can do no wrong. Some lovely moments though.

Coming up this Sunday on Resonance FM at noon. Must be two decades since they last let me on air. Thanks to Ivor for the second chance.

I think we can all agree that Evri has excelled itself with its confirmation photo of my parcel delivery.

Good luck with that, whoniverse - if that even is your real name.
FYI Ama*** will not be stocking Penda's Fen: Scene by Scene. The book is freely available from source at cover price £14.99 plus postage (reprint next week), or from your bricks and mortar bookshop via Gardners distribution. Ta!

Frankly no Arena at 50 celebration would be complete without Mary Dickinson. Her Kendo Nagasaki/Peter Blake film, an Indian rope trick of the documentary art, is on BBC Four at 10pm tonight. The last time I watched it, this happened... www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p...

It's a reget I have never been able to access the former Little Theatre Club, but tonight I visited the other birthplace of free improvisation: The Grapes in Sheffield, former HQ of Bailey, Bryars and Oxley. They still do nice a pint. We had a couple just to be absolutely sure.

Very sad to read that Nabil Shaban has died. A formidable activist and creative in all manner of ways. During a wideranging interview in 2016, I told him he was the very last person filmed by Derek Jarman while he still possessed sight. He didn't know and it moved him greatly.

The mixed reviews made me wonder, but have finally caught up on The Roses and enjoyed it enormously. Mind you I'm already well disposed to 90% of the cast.

If anything symbolises the BBC's failure to appreciate what they have in the Written Archives Centre in 2025, it is surely its bizarre inability to fix a basic typo in the booklet of the Doctor Who BluRay box sets for what feels like the millionth time.
In reality it is EIGHTEEN times.

What a blast, and that's not a reference to Storm Amy. Had a brilliant weekend at Hartlepool Folk Festival repping my Penda's Fen and Ivor Cutler books, but there was so much else besides. The taxi firm now automatically assumes I am in The Fisherman's Arms, and that's not far from the truth.

Delighted to be chipping in at Hartlepool Folk Festival this weekend, assuming Storm Amy doesn't blow me off course. It's their 10th year and my 1st. Join me on Saturday for a Penda's Fen screening and Q&A, and on Sunday for Ivor Cutler: This and That. Books for sale! www.hartlepoolfolkfest.co.uk
