Thought I was safe from this living in Baton Rouge. Good insulation for the turf prior to temps in the low teens tonight.

Scalping turf with a string trimmer requires less trimming overall but it looks horrible and leads to weed encroachment. You’ll always find weeds growing in the same pattern as habitually string-trimmer-scalped turf. Trim grass to height of surrounding turf, not down to the ground. #Turfsky

It was 41 degrees in Baton Rouge this morning and it just rained for the last 2.5 days >2 inches. Sprinklers should not be running under any circumstance. Default irrigation timer position should be off. Turn on when drought stress is evident. Overwatered lawns have self-imposed issues.

Got back to my office yesterday and flipped the GCSAA dogs of turf calendar to December, realizing I didn’t have one for 2025. Then, I went to check my mailbox and look what was patiently waiting my arrival. My mind is now at ease.

Lots of tar spot on the fallen maple tree leaves in Grand Rapids, MI. Never really noticed this before this trip home.

Thoughts on random grass squares outside of an IHOP. Unnecessary increased maintenance, or a nice touch? #SplitDecision

Bermudagrass unable and unwilling to grow underneath the shade of this tree. Bermuda does not tolerate shade. Consider St. Augustine or Zoysia spp.
