note that there IS a fish stand, there WILL be a line, and you CAN smell it like 50 feet away. I know this and still make that mistake

I don't think I'd eat at the restaurant there (pricing smelled off). Porto moreso than Lisbon gives off strong tourist vibes and some places have priced themselves accordingly.

you don't have to do seafood-heavy if you don't want to. (but you're going to want to.) Braga doesn't take too long--anything over two days seems like it's excessive.

but it was cool going to a soccer match there and walking back to town with the rest of the crowd.

Mercado do Bolhão gets overrun with tourists but is a wonderful staging point and ....man, the fruit there is cheap as hell. Even by the standards you're gonna run into.
December 3, 2025 at 2:13 AM
also noting Coimbra's a day trip from Aviero too (but possibly in a different direction, not sure how you're getting to Galicia)

I was so mad at myself when I missed their 50th by two days
December 3, 2025 at 2:05 AM
honestly, if you're gonna be in Porto for a bit: I'm gonna advocate for you to either overnight or day trip to Braga. it's an hour away by train and you are going to eat so damn well even by late spring Portuguese standards

weirdly enough, I don't remember going *in* a lot of places in Porto. I liked their art museum well enough, but every time I've gone to Porto I got kinda tired of Catholic art and, well, there's a lot of it

Bonus: that's their annual independence (...not exactly, more like overthrowing dictatorship) celebration day!
December 3, 2025 at 2:01 AM
(that also dovetails well into their graduation day in early May, which was neat to be at. obvious caveat: lots of drunk kids.)

otherwise: man, the parks there are *great*. you can lose most of an afternoon at/around Jardins do Palácio de Cristal.
December 3, 2025 at 2:00 AM
okay, so: I don't know anything about Aviero or Galicia (but would be curious). Porto: what time of year would you be there? if it's late April you could catch their annual independence celebration.
