@grayrinehart.bsky.social
I write stories and songs and other things.
I edit novels and evaluate submissions for Baen Books.
USAF veteran, once and former engineer, worker in wood and words.
Friend to the friendly, ambivalent to the unfriendly, enemy to few.
I keep hearing we might be living in a simulation. If so, how about simulate me winning the lottery?😂🤣

Just something I've been thinking about for a while: Human rights are, above all, individual rights. www.grayrinehart.com/blog/human-r...

He said, "She said."
She said, "He said."
We said, "They said."
They said what they always said.
And no one saw that they were he, and she, and we.

If I ever stole your thunder, I would gladly give it back - or, failing that, raise a thunderous roar on your behalf! (Can you think of a way? Let me know.)

"My Vitrified House"

My throwing arm's exhausted from heaving all those stones
And the panes I shattered cut my feet to shreds
My yard is littered with rocks and shards and far too many bones
Of my neighbors maimed by glassy arrowheads

I remind myself from time to time: Everyone is doing their best, but precious few know precisely what to do.

As I wrote in my newsletter this morning, I hope and pray that you have many reasons to be thankful—so many that each one you recall brings another to mind, and another, and another, and your smile widens and your joy increases as the day goes along! Happy Thanksgiving!

So the MWSA deemed two of my books - Elements of War; and, A Church More Like Christ - worthy of silver medals … does that mean I'm now an "award-winning" author?

Well, didn't win the big lottery.
Didn't play, either; that made it kind of hard! 😜

Will wonders never cease? Seems as if I might be able to claim "award-winning author" status in a couple of months. Remarkable!

Spammers are getting desperate. This morning one threatened me with violence (specifically, with splashing acid in my face). First time for everything, I guess.

On this date in 1969, Apollo 11 launched toward the first Moon landing. A few decades later, I wrote a novel of the first lunar colony. https://www.amazon.com/Walking-Sea-Clouds-Gray-Rinehart/dp/0998209260/

Back on this date in 1895, Bishop Fulton Sheen was born. I wonder what he would have thought of my idea that the church itself could be more like Christ. https://www.amazon.com/A-Church-More-Like-Christ/dp/B0DGQSCCWP/

About to order some more copies of Elements of War. Anybody want one? 😉

My take on the Ukraine situation is that everyone in charge should read chapter 24 of Elements of War and figure out where they are in this diagram - and how to move as far away from "total defeat" as they can. (The book is at amazon.com/Elements-War...)

Finally getting around to sharing this: a whiskey service I made for a friend for Christmas (whiskey not included!).

Verse for the day:

So much hatred everywhere
On my left and on my right
But I won't surrender to despair
Or give up in the fight
To support and do the good I can
Even if my good may not be great
And to try to be a better man
Without giving in to hate

This new anthology, coming in December, includes one of my stories from Analog Science Fiction & Fact. I'm chuffed to share the pages with so many great authors!
