Now that he knows Alex is a woman I wonder if the captains behavior will change at all in the workforce and at home. It will be interesting to see how he manages that (and if his general creepiness increases)

I'm very appreciative that the captain is being so understanding (in his own way) of Adrians mutism and alleged sexuality. The fact that Adrian felt comfortable enough to call him 'papa' when he was passed out shows a lot.

I think that the generational trauma associated with this story helps a lot to understand the social pressure to be "perfect" in terms of being a mother and wife. The main character feels the need to have a perfect pregnancy, body, and home.
