The kind of update I'd love to see is as environment and art direction of Octopath Traveler applied to later FF. However, I do agree that the storybook/fairytale vision of FFIX would lose its magic in a realistic world.

So it took me about 6 days to journey through The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller. I let my thoughts and feelings sit for a bit after the closing scene, and I do feel a heaviness in my chest. I want the world for characters like Patroclus. I’ll be carrying this character with me. #booksky💙📚

One that comes to mind is Daybreakers (2009). It's a nice addition to the genre with an intriguing premise.
