I feel like Okami has been the best Zelda game for a very long time (at least following the OoT-era model). I guess that genre is adventure game?

Anyway, book is only four dollars (which is a steal), and apparently it already has a sequel (which is twice as long???), so I guess I'll be reading good for a little while longer.

I also love how it feels very personal. By setting it in (what I kind of assume is?) the author's hometown, everything about the setting becomes that much more authentic and grounded. You really feel like these streets *exist,* rather than being something nebulous dictated by the needs of the plot.

I'm not a die-hard fan of punk rock or magical girls, so what really kept me reading moment-to-moment was the wit. I had to stop several times along the way to either laugh aloud to myself or save a passage on my phone to look at later. It's not over-the-top, but the jokes land when they arrive.

If I had to give an elevator pitch, it feels like Symphogear by way of Batman (1966, ABC). It's both very intense and very fun; a little bit corny and self-aware without sacrificing its drama or stakes. It's dripping with *earnestness,* which I think is what I found most refreshing.

It's a bright (but natural) red! Getting a fresh coat today, getting my roots reapplied, &c. Always liked the color but haven't had it regularly since before COVID.
