Enjoying the Lone Fungus sequel at the moment, might be in the top 3 metroidvania released this year for me. Funnily, I hated the original, but the demo for the Kickstarter was soo good and the full game is everything I wanted and more

played a bit of Kingdoms of the Dump yesterday, for me it really captures that vibe of a long-lost SNES game that many retro-jRPGs go for, but never quite capture

has positioning in combat, though so far I'm not sure it has a big impact, except moving away from tiles that can damage you

I was thinking more of this SMT monster, though now I have to check out your reference point

Jordan Mechner's favorite port/version of Prince of Persia. Loved the game when I played it back a couple decades. Really interesting to see all the ports discussed

Listened to two Re-Animator commentaries to play to this point, since running back to town to heal is a bit exhausting, and while the most music is good, I needed some variety in the end

this game is clearly a metaphor for old people being afraid of too much zex

Urgh, this is how proper skill distribution looks. These skill webs, or whatever they are called are just pointless minigames designed to keep you addicted

I wanted to max out all the stats, but after far too many iterations, the game glitched out

Nice little clicker, even if you can reach the end pretty fast

But you can keep going and going after you've finished, and see how much your little diggers can get you

Given the reaction to the Silksong release date, I expect the DSM-6 to add Silkmania as a new condition

The Last Cluck Dungeon Crawler is the kind of "game" where the introduction is longer than the actual gameplay portion of the game. Like 2 minutes of introduction, 20 seconds of wandering around, the end.

Someone recently asked me what my favorite metroidvania were, and going over what I played in recent years, damn there was a lot of good stuff. Some classics still made it into the list, but this is a genre that has really gone from strength to strength in the last decade or so
