Without saying The Legend of Zelda, fav NES game?

My first RPG was Final Fantasy for the NES. I was pretty young and had no idea what I was doing at the time and struggled to make sense of combat. Always stopped at marsh cave for the crown.

Some years later I got Super Mario RPG Legend of the Seven Stars and it just clicked. Loved RPGs ever since.

Phantasy Star Online was such a great time on the Dreamcast and GameCube

Another one!

31: Octopath Traveler

Beautiful art style and near perfect soundtrack. Five of the 8 characters really grew on me.

Biggest gripe is I wish their stories actually connected together more instead of tacked on with the final “True” ending and dialog screens in-between chapter quests.

Nice! I got lucky with the Mew and Leaf!

30: Neva

Another beautiful game by the creators of Gris. The combat wasn't really great and got old quick but the art, music, traversal and the FEELS were awesome. Some fast moving, chase areas were the highlights for me.

29: Zelda Echoes of Wisdom

A good return to traditional top-down Zelda gameplay. I’m over the graphics style but the soundtrack was good. Water block, beds, hang spider, peahat and darknut enemies are op. Link abilities were cool but echo menus were a pain and boss fights could be tedious.

28: Castaway

A short, top-down Zelda-Like game with the world feeling like one big puzzle. I can’t recall if the music was good but the pixel art and combat was, and the hook shot was SO LONG!

A solid 1-2 hours for the main game and then the challenge tower for whoever needs that.

27: Zelda Skyward Sword HD

Glad to finally finish off this entry. The story, items, and music are great but sword controls and linear world were still a bummer. Once I got to the sand ocean area I got real into it. Final boss was almost unspoiled for me after all these years! Groose got good!

26: Final Fantasy NES

Still sick while playing on my phone. Loved this game as a kid. Fighter, Thief, Black and White Mages was my setup. Great soundtrack and awesome sprite work. Very hard at times. Broken spells suck!

Probably 5th liked Final Fantasy out of all I’ve finished (1-9)

25: Batman Return of the Joker

Pretty sure this game was supposed to be something else but ended up being reskinned as Batman. Real difficult and the countdown on boss health sucked. The flying areas were cool. Was sick while I played through it. A few good songs.

24: Batman

A hard action game on the NES that had a killer wall climb and the special split blade weapon was the best. A few real good song loops. I don’t remember shit about the bosses lol.

23: Alcahest

A random Super Famicom Arcade Action RPG with a great soundtrack and cool spells and combat. Got SUPER TOUGH. Save States a godsend. Extra companions with their spells were great additions to have with your own sword abilities. I’d love to have this physical game cart.

22: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles NES

Had to rush home on 4th of July so I smashed my face against this game over and over on the plane ride there. Leonardo and Donatello FTW. Good music loops. SOME REAL BULLSHIT ENEMY SPAWNS AND LAG. Always fun to ride the turtle van around.

Never again now.

21: Senua’s Saga Hellblade II

Beautiful game with a couple of good songs. Fights and environmental puzzles ran thin though and I feel like the story in this was waaaaay more convoluted than the first Hellblade which I really liked. The ending was abrupt as fuck too.

20: Fallout 4

I opened all fast travel locations first then WENT FOR IT! A great time with some intense moments. Music in this one had better environmental tracks and I really enjoyed the companions (Nick V. ❤️) Base building was just ok. Story was also just ok other than the TWIST!

19: Another Crab’s Treasure

A great entry to the Souls-Like style. Adjust settings change how approachable the game is for everyone. Even puts a gun on your shell!

Too bad the game was stuttery. Played on Series X as well as Switch. And the soundtrack was meh.

Great fun still.

18: Streets of Rage

Played this co-op with a friend and even though it was a straight forward beat-em-up it was a lot of fun. That split-second wait in-between attacking to stun enemies was op. Buuut the sounds and music kinda sucked ass.

17: Return of the Obra Dinn

I loved Papers Please from the same developer. If you want a puzzle adventure game dealing with horror-esque creatures in a mystery story, check this out. That’s even with a weaker soundtrack and an art style that didn’t always work for me. Worth trying still.
