In other words: Yes, NYT leadership does indeed engage in journalistic malpractice based on a preexisting set of views (or dare I say, agendas). And those within elite media circles pretending otherwise are simply circling the wagons in the dumbest way possible.

There was quite literally no way that an organization with the kinds of resources like NYT could not be aware of the origins and intent of the non-story that they breathlessly hyped. It was a decision made because editorial leadership determined that Gay should be a target regardless.

As with many things, it boils down to class solidarity.
