Nice use of quotation marks around “efficiency,” since claims of greater efficiency always depend on what you’re maximizing . . .

NLRB rules that Starbucks illegally closed stores in Ithaca, NY.

Starbucks ordered to reopen the stores with the unionized staff and give them 16 months backpay.

Straightforward application of the Darlington Manufacturing partial closing test.

Good to see the NLRB flexing its remedial muscles.

Sandy and Milo at their last eclipse somewhere in NW Kansas near the Nebraska border in 2017.

Viewing the eclipse in Dallas—about 80% of the sun covered.

Our plans to drive 5 hours to see the full annular eclipse (with youngest son Milo and Sandy the dog) scratched by a dog medical emergency.

Sandy’s now doing fine.

Hope to see some of you in Dallas April 8 for the next total eclipse.

I think people forget that many of the tens of thousands of graduate assistants who have organized or gone on strike in the last year confront real workplace safety issues on a day-to-day basis.

Every time I see the icon on my phone or think about this site, I know I should be thinking “Blue Sky”. Lovely.

But in my head, it always comes out “Blueski”, which rhymes with “Brewski”.

And don’t get me started on “skeets” when “bleats” was there for the taking.
