I posted this 13 years ago today when I was speculating on what the release of the final book in the Wheel of Time series would do to this country. Simpler times.

And I don’t mean this in the sense that AI will become sentient and threaten humanity. Rather I mean it in the sense that this is…dumb. It is all so dumb.

Me everytime some over paid consultant tries to shove AI into my workflow.

Again, nothing wrong with gumbo and cornbread on a Friday night.

I have completed my new associate dean training and have take my position among the ranks attending the associate dean conference.

Relatedly I’m having lasagna at Andy’s Jazz club in Chicago.

When in Chicago I always do Cajun cuisine. Heaven on 7 was a favorite before it closed.

Storyville is very good, but when I noted the spicy warning on the jambalaya the waiter asked if I found black pepper hot (no) and assured me I would be fine.

I am indeed.

I don’t want to quibble because I think the thesis of this story is right…but this is not what happened with the subprime mortgage crisis. Not even close. This is just flat wrong as a description of events.

Summer is approaching and I’m so ready. I have yard projects and house repair and sitting by a fire with whiskey and a cigar time. All of these activities require an audio book, and I am well stocked.

Doing the Disney thing and I got to say the number of dads wearing “princess security” shirts is some fucked up messaging. It’s the “meet the prom date at the door with a shotgun” gag that you can get through a metal detector.

So I’m about a third into Meddling Kids, and it is absolutely delightful and everything one might hope from a Lovecraft mythos Scooby Doo. At first I was sad that Cantero didn’t get the rights to use the actual characters…but his remix is solid and has grown on me as familiar but new.

Stranded in Chicago #ISA2025 for what I hope is only one extra day. Made the best of it by supping at the Berghoff, a Chicago tradition.

#ISA2025 Tuesday lunch on the town. I continue to go local and unhealthy, and I continue to be thrilled with the results.

poor life choices at #ISA2025 in Chicago!

Im going to try to keep the style and tone from past ISA posts on the other place.

That includes a bit of humor. Attempts to highlight really great work. And photos of my restaurant adventures (2twenty2 on Wabash) #ISA2025

Two days of work. One more and I should be able to solder.

Making two sample panels and then one design will be replicated 3 more times.

Today is cold and sunny

The sky is such a beautiful crystal blue. It looks so gentle and welcoming. One might be tempted to go for a long walk or frolic under the pale sun…

But doing so would be fatal in about 15 minutes.

Nature sets a cunning trap.

One thing I wish people in Trump's outer orbit would realize. There is no level of abasement that will bring you into the inner circle.

Exhibit A

Winter project is to build 4 stained glass panels for the side lights on my front door. I’m split on which design to do so I’ll probably build a sample panel for each.

I was feeling a bit worn down by the job of being department chair. Thank you Panda Express for reminding me why I do what I do.
