Accomplished a major goal of mine right as the year ended.

Doesn’t mean my support of #CancelStudentLoans has dipped one bit.

So much I really, really loved about this one. But I feel like it was just shy of the brilliance I was hoping for. 4/5

Who are your four favourite Marvel Characters? #MarvelComics

Hit-Monkey, Werewolf by Night, Daken, Agent Venom

Piranesi by Susanna Clark. The best usage of the “door between worlds” trope in fantasy that I’ve ever read.
December 11, 2024 at 6:54 PM
Gentlemen of the Road by Michael Chabon. Historical adventure in the style of Dumas, written with the sparkling prose of Chabon’s more “serious” stuff.
December 11, 2024 at 6:50 PM
Muses, Madmen, and Prophets by Daniel B. Smith. One of those books that, after reading it, you see in every subject you learn about. History, religion, psychology - it casts a light on all of them.

Somehow this book manages to balance both a brilliant, Holmes-esque detective AND a half-crazed Hannibal-esque consultant in one mystery

The Third Policeman by Flann O’Brien. Achieves all the uncanny terror that House of Leaves does, without the special effects (though I like that book)

I despise those "Here's what she looks like now" clickbait headlines, but this one is hysterical.
