This cold, metric-driven system sucks the joy out of healing and leaves the experience empty for everyone involved. 🌑

When we let algorithms dictate care, medicine becomes a hollow shell…technically precise, but spiritually dead.
This isn't just about patient outcomes; it’s about the soul of the profession.

The "Age of Metrics" demands we treat patients like units of production. It calls empathy "inefficient." It labels time spent listening as "waste."
But you cannot automate compassion. You cannot measure the comfort of a hand held in fear.

Nothing is interrupted.
Nothing is flagged.
The system moves forward

They part without explanation.
No warning.
No objection.
The hospital continues.
Processes stable.
Variance acceptable.
Outcomes fall within range.
And so the losses are normalized
summarized
averaged

It’s that knowing no longer compels us to act.
This system doesn’t reject truth.

Measures it.
Files it away.
And then continues...unchanged
without anyone breaking a rule.

They look around now.
Screens glow.
Dashboards hum.
Protocols everywhere.
“So much structure,” Cassandra says.
“So little listening,” Semmelweis replies.

They pause.
What broke them wasn’t disbelief
It was this…
truth that threatens identity
truth that disrupts hierarchy
truth that makes comfort impossible.

Semmelweis answers quietly.
“I showed them,” he says.
Numbers.
Outcomes.
Fewer deaths.
They didn’t refute the data.
They rejected what it implied.

Cassandra speaks first:
“I warned them,” she says.
Not vaguely.
Not metaphorically.
Clearly.
Repeatedly.
They didn’t argue.
They just stopped listening...

Sometimes a concern carries more weight depending on who says it.
Sometimes legitimacy comes only after repetition.
And yet different perspectives can sharpen care when it matters most.

Team based care is often described as seamless.
In reality it is shaped by training scope hierarchy trust and lived experience.
Collaboration does not always mean equal footing.

Management decisions shift
Not because of pain alone, but because of stability and displacement patterns
