I always knew Royston had its witches, but I don't think the locals memorialised them. 😀(Spotted on the Herts Memories website). @balhnews.bsky.social @roystonmuseum.bsky.social

Begs the question, who do I go to if don't want to be cremated but reincarnated instead?

It seems that he was known to be struggling, but his superiors failed him. Thank God for the Samaritans today (if you're struggling yourself they can help. Call 116 123).

Long suffering mother (house-runner, chicken keeper, ration book meal magician and so much more; the iron scaffolding her menfolk) and second son (home on leave from the elite Marines). And their pets... #LestWeForget #VEDay80

First son - home on leave.

Would rather take his chances in the open during air-raids than risk it in the Anderson shelter his Dad had built! #LestWeForget #VEDay80

Just ordinary folk. A musician/father (who served in WW1, then in the Home Guard), one son (who walked through the fires around St Paul's to aim the anti-aircraft guns), and a second in the Home Guard (who later join the elite Royal Marines). #LestWeForget #VEDay80

Did you know that, due to a lack of small change, traders in the 17th century made their own tokens for customers to use instead? Royston had several, including this from grocer James Swan (Image © The Trustees of the British Museum). Find out more here: howtohistory.substack.com/p/trade-tokens

Today is International Workers' Memorial Day. In the 1870s many lost their lives in the coprolite diggings of Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and South Cambridgeshire. There is no memorial to them. #IWMD2025

From medieval times, locals in #Royston made merry on 'Plough Monday' (Monday following 12th Night). In some places a plough was brought into church the following Sunday and blessed before ploughing could start in earnest. #BitesizeRoyston @oneplacestudies.bsky.social @folkloresociety.bsky.social
