Possibly Trump's billion dollar suit against the BBC is a strategy that aims to reduce the influence of European news organizations like the BBC, the Guardian, DW and France 24, which are currently *absolutely essential* in providing credible free coverage in the United States.

The silver lining to the surrender by 8 Dems is that the House GOP must return to vote on it. Johnson must swear in Grijalva, and the discharge petition on the Epstein files must force a full floor vote. Stay tuned.

People are out to get Schumer because of Gaza and are using the likely end of the shutdown as an excuse. A lot of the shutdown "cave in" talk is really about Gaza. But Democrats were always in an impossible position over Gaza because they are running a "big tent" party.

Now the entire focus is on healthcare subsidies & it's *crystal clear* that Republicans want to take them away. Options:

1) Republicans vote to take away subsidies & face dire consequences.

2) Republicans refuse to have the vote & face dire consequences.

3) Republicans cave & subsidies continue.

I don't think this is a cave in at all. It shows the Democrats restoring people's SNAP payments for the holidays and it sets us up for a Final Death Match over health care in which Trump will be in a very weak position and will have to clearly own the consequences.

I am not going to pre-judge.

"Trump’s new hardline against extending the ACA subsidies prevents a real chance of reaching a bipartisan deal on that issue, so several of them are willing to settle for just a standalone vote in order to end the worsening shutdown crisis."

The emerging deal would include a stopgap measure to extend government funding until January and be tied to a larger package to fully fund several key agencies.

"Trump has said each sunken boat has saved 25,000 American lives, presumably from overdoses. The boats, however, appear to have been transporting cocaine, not the far more deadly synthetic opioids that kill tens of thousands of Americans each year."

Trump says boat crews are narco-terrorists. The truth is more nuanced, AP finds
In interviews in villages on Venezuela's northeastern coast, from which some of the boats departed, residents and relatives said the dead men had been running drugs but were not narco-terrorists.

Gaslighting is the natural expression of the narcissistic personality because one can only be "the best" in relation to others; therefore, others must be persuaded to recognize one's greatness, one way or the other. If we stopped using the word "billion," which the public clearly does not understand, and replaced it with "thousand million," as in, "Trump just gave forty thousand million dollars to Argentina," I think it might actually help. Am I serious? I don't even know any more, so I suppose I am.

Journalism currently depends too much on controversy, which leads to people deliberately or semi-deliberately misunderstanding each other so they can have intense disagreements, which don't actually help to bring anyone any closer to any sort of accurate knowledge because they're not really genuine.
