Did you know that a knight on an infinite chess board is 24/13 times faster then a king?!

A proof of this fact was posted on the archives by Christian Táfula, where he solves the problem for the (a,b) knight, a generalisation of the beloved (1,2) knight.

I am sitting in a cafe at a bookstore and two sisters are at the table over, the younger 8 or 9, the older looks like she might be starting highschool this year.

They are having the most wonderful exploration of the differences between 'estimation' and 'guestimation'.
