Biggest surprise for me was discovering a love of jazz via Steely Dan and folk via Nick Drake. This from an old punk who has little time now for anything from that time but The Clash and Buzzcocks.

I'm interested to hear from people like Jon who heard Hunky Dory before Ziggy blew up. I mean, how well regarded was it as a contemporary release? I can't see it being passed around in the schoolyard, that's for sure!

And I will always argue that their best song is the first single and first track on first side of first album, Break On Though. I almost believe this, certainly enough to take on all comers in pointless argument stakes.
