No doubt the regime is prepared to kill plenty of their countrymen, one has to keep in mind that if the protests fail, as many or more will be quietly murdered as a revenge/punishment

This isn't really true though, they send the men on motorbikes, buggies etc to filter through the understrength Ukr front and attack from the rear. Russians are cruel, but not stupid. Saying otherwise diminishes the sacrifice many soldiers made to defend the civilized part of Europe

I never heard a person describing what happened in Poland as a gradual process, industries were uprooted, fortunes were made and plenty were forced to emigrate. Regions were reeling from Balcerowicz's reforms for decades
