Looks like most birds have fledged, have not done a nest check recently except spot checks when dealing an emergency. Anyhow,things are looking great for the colony,I will miss them when they head to the Amazon (many fly over the Gulf of Mexico to get there, some travel over land ). #purplemartin

Fledglings are starting to appear in the colony. There are a couple hundred birds raising Cain out there.
Just sent in poop samples to Colby College in Maine so they can do DNA testing to see what the chicks are being fed. Science is cool.

You kids carry on with the political hoopla, but if it becomes too much, feast your eyes on these beautiful Purple Martin chicks. Life will seem better, at least for a minute! And consider, in about 45 days these little rascals will be headed to Brazil.

Blasted raccoons! I have electric fence wire (hot) around the base of my bird feeding stations. I use the same thing on my Purple Martin poles. A snake or raccoon can wipe out a pretty large colony. System went down and a bloody raccoon flipped the bird cam and stole a suet feeder. Bastards.
