A year ago today I embarked on a 30 hour coach trip to Berlin. Berlin was amazing, and despite seriously questioning my life choices on the bus more than once, it hasn't completely put me off long distance coach travel!

Love Timpsons. Once again the man in the shop fixed my beloved boots. He managed to find a workaround as one solution would have been, in his words, far too expensive

Always great, always reliable. And the business model and ethics speak for themselves

The retreat part of my Gladstone's stay ended with this Yehuda Amichai poem

'From the place where we are right
Flowers will never grow
in the Spring

...

But doubts and loves
Dig up the world
Like a mole, a plow

And a whisper will be heard in the place Where the ruined
House once stood'

In the middle of a time of retreating and writing - staying at a rather good place for both

Prepped for our next Messy Church @mancathedral.bsky.social today. It includes a certain primary school banger

So lucky to go on a tour of Salford Cathedral, as it comes near the end of its renovation

As well as beautiful restoration, they have invested in ways to make the cathedral as sustainable as possible, whilst retaining the beauty of the heritage

My memories from 5yrs ago

Between lockdowns & restrictions, my daughter loved playing for a local team. I felt so grateful to be freezing, standing in the muddy field

It only happens because of the volunteers who keep turning up for the kids

Huge shoutout for all they do 👏🏽

Good morning!

Definitely an autumnal feel to the air

Had the best time at the #PoweredByHope conference held by @christianaiduk.bsky.social

So many brilliant speakers, reminding us to be witnesses to faithful, hopeful action and to challenge ourselves out of places of comfort. Thankful for the opportunity to lead the reflection for opening worship

In news that I know will divide my followers, I am beyond excited for breakfast today

I'd been bemoaning the fact that this had been stopped last year. A colleague spotted it a couple of days ago (apparently it's been restarted) and bought me a jar

I have the best work colleagues

Booked a birthday meal for son in a country pub with the aim of having a walk after

Cue constant heavy rain, so cosy afternoon playing games in pub it is instead

Enjoying writing a script for a webinar I'm delivering to church leaders in Finland - playing with some Jeremiah imagery, which has been really interesting

Don't normally write a full script, but doing so for translation purposes - thankfully can deliver my talk in English!

Last week we had a large party

Today I sent all reusable cake decorations, photo pegs & bunting to a 'Library of Things' - an initiative conmecting community & creating a circular economy

Being green is not necessarily about a 'lower' standard of living

It *can* be a more satisfying way to live

And just like that, my baby turns 18 ❤️

My heart is full after a weekend of brilliant celebrations

My head is in denial that all my kids are now adults!

Yesterday I went on a trip to visit a toilet!

It was a waterless compost toilet at a church. Given my thoughts on water saving, this was a timely trip

The toilet was lovely- not smelly, accessible, minimal maintenance

There are a number of churches with these and all are enthusiastic about them

Reading 'Warming Up' by Madeleine Orr for our #Climate book group, meeting via Zoom on Oct 20th

I'm finding it fascinating, grim at times, and very well written

If you want to join the book group, message me. But, in any case, I'd recommend this

Gorgeous 10mile hike today with family. Marple - Broadbottom on the GM Ringway. Again, really impressed with the @gojauntly.bsky.social app

Can't recommend the #GMRingway enough

It's grim up north....

One of my favourite RS Thomas poems, on display in the church where he was vicar - St Hywyn's Aberdaron

...'And the
thought comes
of that other being who is
awake, too,
letting our prayers break on him,
not like this for a few hours,
but for days, years, for eternity'

If you ever find yourself in North Wales, do check out the storytelling sessions at Menter y Felin Uchaf, near Aberdaron

Extraordinary retellings of Welsh folktales, in a roundhouse amongst fields. Reminded me so much of the power and importance of the oral tradition
