And the chances of any *reputable* prosecutor charging James are vanishingly small... and any other type of prosecutor (!) has seen what happens, so ... Of course, one should never underestimate the power of stupidity.

I have that same memory, but I was one year older...

Dr. Zachary Rubin's Substack article this morning outlined very unfortunate (to say the least) updates to the CDC's Autism page. Ugh.

The CDC’s Autism Page Shows Something Is Very Wrong Inside the Agency
Something is deeply broken inside the CDC, and the agency’s newly revised autism and vaccine page is the clearest evidence yet.

I find myself in "edit mode" when reading... it is, I think, one of the perils of being a writer. "Oh, why did they do that? Oh, that word should be deleted." And so on.
November 18, 2025 at 2:33 PM
Well, *that's* wildly helpful.

(not...)
🙄

There are good quotes about that.

"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." Arthur C. Clarke

"Science is magic that works." Kurt Vonnegut

Yup.

HA! Much wine, I have no doubt, and I am quite sure it was *very* good wine!

Thank you.

Oh, and "real character"? FOR SURE! Ha.
November 9, 2025 at 2:16 AM
Hmm. Might've been my sister Olivia? though perhaps me. We had one of those ... interesting relationships, though it improved over time.
I suspect he may have been more forthcoming about me when I wasn't there, if that makes sense. Anyway, thank you for that!
November 9, 2025 at 2:16 AM
Probably more likely you met my sister (half-sister) Olivia. He and I weren't all that much in touch when he was at GWU... long story.

Um, I hope I don't need to say that my father's agreement was referring to Watson, not the quality of his book?

(Though he was enough of an intellectual snob that he'd probably agree on the book, too...)
November 8, 2025 at 7:56 PM
Thank you, and he would (and did) agree with that. 100%.

It's so cool to run into people who know my father's work AND know his book! 😀
November 8, 2025 at 7:53 PM
Aha! That's my father, who wrote "The Eighth Day of Creation" about the discovery of the DNA formation, and who knew Watson well... and did *not* like him. The feeling was mutual.

They have the nerve to say this (from an AP article):

“This unprecedented injunction makes a mockery of the separation of powers. Courts hold neither the power to appropriate nor the power to spend.” (US DOJ)

Um... 😵‍💫

"To no one's surprise, none of the 'reporters' in the briefing room followed up."
November 6, 2025 at 3:58 PM
I have read that three times now and I cannot make it make sense.

Doesn't anyone know how to math any more? I mean, I was never exactly *great* at math, but ... even I can tell that three ways versus two ways is a whole different equation?!?

There are two places I *used* to live that I now wish I could be in and vote, on opposite ends of the country.

New York City, and California. ❤️

WTF?! And here I JUST TODAY posted something about Teen Vogue having good political coverage.

I'm so sorry for you specifically, your colleagues, and all who relied on your coverage!
November 3, 2025 at 8:25 PM
Most people don't pay much attention ... they're just out there living their lives. Those of us who DO pay attention often chastise them, but that's missing the point. If people don't know what's being done on their behalf, that's the fault of the people doing the things, who aren't making it clear.

Thank you for putting a pumpkin over his face...

Also, regarding Vance - someone else on Substack (I think it was Robert Hubbell - @rbhubbell.bsky.social) commented in his post today that Vance is "terminally unctuous," which I think is perfect.

But he's SO BUSY and SO TIRED.

Sheesh.
