Leicester writer of were-squids, space moths and the odd Doctor Who short story. I talk about video games, 80s Who and Ancient Rome/Pompeii stuff. Big fan of hypocausts.

I'm playing Tomb Raider 1 for the first time (remastered) and no one told me about the horror elements! I made it past the mummies, and now I'm in a room made of meat(??). Next: Lara closes an Oblivion Gate? I love this game.

Post-Christmas writing tip: try eating 1 chocolate every 250 words. Surprisingly effective!

38. Domestic fiction: Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt. I’m not a big reader of domestic fiction, but this one has a sentient octopus called Marcellus! I was glued to the audiobook. It’s a warm, quiet story with a lot to say, and a nice change from my usual choices.

32. Publisher starting with "B": Best Wishes from the Full Moon Coffee Shop by Mai Mochizuki. Starts with B, and so do its publishers, Brazen (UK) and Bungeishunju Ltd (Japanese). A cosy sequel about wishes and horoscopes. Learned what my moon and rising signs are, which is cool!

I'll be doing the 52 Book Club challenge again this year! Will be posting (sporadically) on my progress. It's a nice way to expand your reading if you tend to stick to one genre. I may also end up doing this with Doctor Who books/audios, we'll see! the52book.club

A belated Halloween post on The Brain of Morbius - I love their dynamic here. The Doctor isn't in the mood to be pushed around by the Time Lords, and Sarah does her best to cheer him up and start adventuring. A great atmospheric story, too.

This scene reminds me of that Barbie meme where they're posing for mugshots. Invasion of the Dinosaurs is only their second adventure together but Sarah is good at going with the flow.

Counting down to the release of Sarah Jane Smith: Roving Reporter II from Pencil Tip Publishing with some favourite clips of Sarah Jane from her original run of adventures! From the moment she walks into the Doctor's life, you know she's going to be special.

The Pompeii collection is growing. Hoping to add some more 1800-1899 era books to this shelf soon - there is some Obscure stuff if you dig deep enough!

Whoever owned this book 100 years ago and tore out page 113, I am very cross with you. (But also amused that the only annotation you left was "heretics"!). It's a protestant Christian historical tale, for context. Gives it some personality, I guess!

Salve! Thrilled to be commencing a beginner's Latin course next month. Time to start reading up... (I believe "I learn" in Latin is "ego disco" which would be an amazing band name.)

Some photos from @jewrywallroman.bsky.social today. Thrilled to finally visit and take in some local Roman history!

The Time Warrior is slowly becoming one of my fav eps of Who. Irongron is great, as is his uneasy alliance with Lynx. Plus the wonderful Sarah Jane, some fun fight sequences and nice period costumes. It's become my go-to cosy watch.

Walked down the Glenfield Tunnel and rode the mini railway! Run by the Leicestershire Industrial History Society, who also produced some books on the local railways. Great fun!

The other day I spent hours researching Ancient Roman hypocausts. Today I'm in Chester and there are THREE within 10 minute walk of each other! Utterly delighted.

New character for my Oblivion vampire playthrough attempt. Pretty proud of her name.

Lovely day at the Old Town Festival in Leicester yesterday, met some Romans and learned a lot about Leicester's history.

Oblivion Remastered is utterly beautiful. New, but feels like coming home again.

May have stayed up til 3am reading this one. Fantastic book about the Ancient Roman cook Apicius, told through the eyes of a fictional slave. 10/10, would eat this book if I could.
