Get ranked choice voting, get rid of the electoral college, and while we're at it smash the state machinery entirely

An organized working class = no more CEOs

A challenger isn't the same thing as a wrangler. Both are cars and both are exploitation, but you can't seriously claim they're the same thing.

The entire model the ussr had and what it attempted (and ultimately failed) to achieve in the end shouldn't be thrown away however
December 1, 2024 at 5:23 PM
I think the ussr certainly degenerated throughout the decades, such as when khrushchev shifted the measure of productivity from fulfilling quotas (needs) to profitability, and these things should absolutely be learned from.
December 1, 2024 at 5:23 PM
I don't think the ussr would've survived from imperialist subversion if it had a purely horizontal society; you can't establish full communism when fully blockaded by the entire imperialist system
December 1, 2024 at 5:21 PM
That's not true at all lol. Not all forms of exploitation are the same, that's why they have distinct names. Wage labor and serfdom are fundamentally different, create different social conditions, and allow for different societies. The existence of exploitation isn't just one and done
December 1, 2024 at 5:20 PM
Your argument was still fundamentally different. You didn't argue that because there was some form of vertical authority, nothing changed; you alluded to the recreation of wage labor as a form of exploitation, which I absolutely agree was a massive mistake made by the ussr
December 1, 2024 at 5:17 PM
Yes! But this wasn't a continuation of serfdom, but a recreation of wage labor. This is one of the most common critiques marxists have of the ussr, and can be clearly delineated from the bolsheviks origins as a social democratic party, and their incorporation of Menshevik elements post-revolution

All workers were automatically in unions: Soviets (Russian for council). Again, you could say the Soviets weren't democratic enough, but this is just a simplistic way of seeing things. People's fundamental relationship to the MoP changed.

What does this even mean? Materialism isn't "how does technology affect us" but "we are material beings whose existence is based on the material world" this isn't even Marxism 101, it's the intro class
December 1, 2024 at 4:58 PM
The two material relationships were still fundamentally different. You could argue the ussr failed at eliminating wage labor (which Marxists do since the ussr started) but claiming they were no different than serfs is just wrong

This person worked within a material analysis of history, and was overall more reasonable with their response. L bozo

Unless your solution is universalized, independent proprietors, ur being unserious.
December 1, 2024 at 4:46 PM
Serfdom as a material position is very distinct: it's a segment of the lower peasantry, which is tied to the land they work, land which is owned by their landlord. This dynamic, even with useful degrees of abstraction, was not maintained in the USSR.
December 1, 2024 at 4:46 PM
I genuinely appreciate this response. The ussr definitely didn't 100% meet ideals (who does lol). There were certainly advancements under Mao in developing a mass character within the communist movement & state, though the "specter of the tsar" should be expected. The scars of the old stain the new.
December 1, 2024 at 4:41 PM
1) this is a complete misunderstanding of what a serf is 2) this is pure metaphysics and completely removed from all material analysis. You can make argument (which Marxists do) that various MATERIAL and REAL structures and phenomena in the ussr were shit, but this is pure idealism and removed
December 1, 2024 at 4:34 PM
You're still obfuscating the fundamental changes to society the ussr brought. They were the first country in Europe with women voting, they abolished serfdom, please read history before just going off of the vibes of the ussr and Russian empire
