That omnibus was how I first read the series, you betcha. My dad had been a SFBC member for years, so it wasn't a new member choice for us.

My first Pratchett was the SFBC edition of The Colour of Magic, too.

Do you have a recommended brand or shape? A quick look suggests there's choice, and choice is paralyzing.

We caught bits of the game during our family celebration, and it looks like the game was in reach for most of its length, but the Lions just couldn't make the breaks and grab it. Sorry for the disappointment.

And that made such an impression that she repeated the story back to me a decade later about how it was the nicest thing anyone had said to her after the birth. And THAT made an impression on me.

Also: I was chatting with a new mother hosting a holiday party, who'd managed to sit down while others were dealing with the baby. She said something about how I wasn't cooing over the baby, and I said something to the effect that "All newborns are the same, small lumps. How are YOU doing?"

It is more important to feed everyone who is hungry and also some people who aren't than it is to not feed anyone who isn't hungry and also not feed some people who are hungry.

The fragility of white men needs to sit the fuck down and shut the fuck up.

No more gatekeeping and "she needs more time" that only seems to get applied to women and POC.

As I said elsewhere: Naming Jemison a grandmaster now simple recognizes that she will have deserved it twenty years from now even if she does nothing further.

SF is better for Jemison and her peers and the audience they attract.
