An immediate and forceful response from Prime Minister Albanese to Trump's latest lunacy.

We should close Pine Gap, get out of Aukus and show there are effective ways to retaliate against economic bullies who think they can ignore free trade international agreements.

Is the calculation of the damage to Australia of tarrifs on steel and aluminium based on the cost of those materials or this market versus our market of last resort?

So the brave Berliners who let Fascism loose once before; rally in their thousands to prevent that genie from getting out of the bottle again. Bravo!
'We are the firewall': Tens of thousands rally against far-right in Berlin
Around 160,000 people took to the streets of Berlin in a mass protest against the far-right, after conservatives broke a long-standing political taboo by seeking support from the far-right Alternative...

Powerful tone setting by - Trudeau.

Focusing on highlighting tariffs that will affect the republican base. (Producers in Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee, etc).

Jobs that will be lost in the US.

Data discrediting Trump’s lies.

And a history of cooperation and mutual support during tough times.
Here's the speech if you haven't heard it. 13 minutes of your time. Share it with your American friends and neighbours, because they won't see it otherwise. Circulate it in Mexico and Denmark, France and the UK, Panama and Germany, Poland and Estonia, and especially -- especially -- Ukraine.

The Greens came out of the progressive 'Green Labor' and many progressive voters think they should have never moved. To have a real green voice in an ALP led government while being a bit back to the future is just what Australians need right now.
Bandt reveals vision for 'effective and progressive' minority power-sharing deal with Albanese
The Greens leader has put the prime minister on notice that his party would seek "in advance" to lock in a "stable and progressive" deal with Labor to form a potential minority government.

Because the below skeet went viral here, and people are arguing over it, I'm going to share some more info about it from a thread I did at the other place. I really need to just do an article about it but haven't done that yet. Until then, I hope readers find this thread useful. 🧵
Denver gave people experiencing homelessness $1k/month. A year later, nearly half had housing.

They also had fewer ER visits, nights spent in a hospital, and jail stays.

The report estimates that this reduction in public service use SAVED the city $589k.

Denver gave people experiencing homelessness $1,000 a month. A year later, nearly half of participants said they had housing.
Participants in Denver's basic-income program reported having more-secure housing, though results were similar in the trial and control groups.

Seems like the right moment to mention that in civilised countries they grit the pavements (so people don't fall over and break themselves) and leave the roads all snowy (so drivers have to drive slowly and carefully). This is both a correct policy and a metaphor, good day to you.

The thing that kills me is you don't need a time machine to understand this. My buddy is in his 80s and grew up on Iowa. He point blank said as a kid sometimes other kids just died. That was his childhood.
I would love to tell you about the times vaccines prevented me from getting sick, but every time it happens, I don’t notice. I just keep feeling well.

Neither do you.
