Proud UMass Amherst alum. Recovering politico & current ED of Boston Policy Institute. MA’s Governor is just a weak mayor. Opinions are my own.
Cool, but do you agree or disagree with this conclusion abt City Hall’s climate change efforts written last year?

Jim’s contention here is wrong: State Senator Brownsberger was clear the shift died b/c the final numbers for the residential tax increase in Boston were less than Mayor Wu warned abt in the summer & fall of 2024 & didn’t meet the Senate’s threshold for action. www.wgbh.org/news/politic...

Check the coverage man: State Senator Brownsberger was clear that the proposal shift died b/c the final numbers for the residential tax increase in Boston didn’t meet the Senate’s threshold for action. That’s btwn the Mayor & the Senate.

When you claim something is “factually wrong,” what exactly are we talking abt here? B/c if it that @apnews.com and @bostonherald.bsky.social and @bostonglobe.com are all wrong and you’re right, then that sounds like someone prominent in the nation’s public life . . .

Jim is taking the lead in trying to turn a report quantifying the impact of a black swan event for Boston’s main revenue source into a scandal b/c he needs to clean up his own reputation.

This from a guy who got rich helping the state overspend billions of dollars on the Big Dig.

Only someone with your history could think producing a report quantifying the impact of a black swan event affecting Boston’s main revenue source = MAGA style behavior.

Where does getting rich helping the state overspends billions of dollars on the Big Dig rank for you on ‘MAGA style behavior’?

Would love to see this chart done for Boston! I suspect an even worse ‘population capacity’ line would be drawn: my hypothesis is that Boston locked a lot of its 1950 to 1980 population loss via massive downzoning & increased regulations. #bospoli #mapoli

The luxury boxes & restaurant & liquor license are all in the new $200M+ White Stadium. The Legacy are explicit that HS football teams won’t be able to use the stadium until “late season” games: bostonlegacyfc.com/blogs/white-...

How high does the conspiracy go Jim?! Is whatever City Hall staffer who messed up the payroll in on it? What abt the paycheck-to-paycheck city workers who complained? Maybe it’s the news outlets in the City that covered it?

Tracking City Council agenda items isn’t a conspiracy you loon.

🍔How much revenue is generated in this district & surrounding neighborhoods from current events - parades, festivals, high school cross-country meets, etc? What additional revenue in meals tax, building permit & other city fees, and increased property values is expected from building White Stadium?
June 20, 2025 at 3:42 PM
💰What would hundreds of millions in new investments look like in the neighborhoods surrounding White Stadium?

🍻What impact would that have on the dozens of recently approved geographically-limited liquor licenses that the surrounding neighborhoods have access to?
June 20, 2025 at 3:42 PM
In other urban stadium proposals the ‘stadium district’ is explicitly the target of millions of $$$ in RE investment, anchored by the new Stadium. This new investment is what justifies spending tax payer dollars: the City makes that money back in taxes & fees from new growth.
June 20, 2025 at 3:42 PM
The #bospoli news this wk has White Stadium on my mind & a recent Crain's Chicago Business article abt an $8B proposed pro-soccer stadium centered redevelopment district highlights the biggest issue lost in the ‘how much it is going to cost’ debate: the impact on the surrounding neighborhoods.

With a professional experience like Jim’s it’s understandable that he would think everyone in public life is dishonest and cynical. And it’s REALLY understandable that he wouldn’t like public discussion of budgets. #bospoli #mapoli

The TL;DR is City Hall estimated a 14% year over year increase for Boston homeowners but the final # was a 10% year over year increase. 14% would have been a MUCH larger increase vs previous years, but 10% was in line w/ previous increases. Here is more from that article:

This is the closest he gets to a take on City Hall’s reversal of years of progress on an issue Jim cares abt. That’s odd for a guy who happily demands transparency & tells ppl how to do their jobs. What stopped him doing that to @mayorwu.boston.gov’s bike & bus lane decisions? #bospoli #mapoli
June 13, 2025 at 3:51 PM
A good example of @jimaloisi.bsky.social’s lack of courage is his recent take on Boston’s pull back on Bike & Bus lanes. The policy was vociferously opposed by @transitmatters.bsky.social, whose board Jim sits on, but you can’t find an actual opinion abt the City’s moves here: #bospoli #mapoli

That’s a lot of trust for an org you seem perfectly willing to attack.

It would have to try. Instead this week the City is touting turning Birch St pedestrian-only, failing to mention this happened (checks notes) **pre-COVID** under a previous mayoral administration. mail.universalhub.com/2019/small-s...

This seems to have some similarity to the “The Understated 'Housing Shortage' in the United States” report from Corinth & Dante in modeling the negative impact of onerous land use regulation. Would LOVE to see models that include that in looking at how many units MA actually needs. #bospoli #mapoli

This means the staff brought over from BPDA to the new City of Boston Planning Dept aren’t included in this list - is that right?

I **think** this is the last time a current or former Mayor of Boston won their Party’s nomination for a state-wide office and got to the general election. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1970_Ma...

This speech from Congressmen Lynch is more or less the opposite of what State House Ways & Means Chair Michlewitz told the same group a few weeks ago. Disagreement on the City’s economy among powerful members of #bospoli
