Slowly but surely making some progress whenever I got some free time #sf6

Super productive day today. Spent time with friends at Top Golf, had dinner with a friend who was in the area, and successfully soldered and calibrated hall effect sticks on my dualsense controller. This was my first experience ever soldering! 😁

11. Misc. Threads. I'm not a fan of Threads removing the # for hashtags. They also have trending search, whether you love or hate that. I especially grew dependent on X's trending search and politics in 2016, and it really changed how I, and many others, used X at the time.

10. Misc. Bsky. Love that Bsky lets you play external links like YouTube. Starter Packs aka X's Lists. Great for newcomers to the platform or sharing with mutuals. There are practically no algorithms which I appreciate so I spend less time on socials. I'm also wishing for bookmarks to come to Bsky!

9. Moderation. Easily better on Bsky. It's got community created moderation lists to mass mute/block tons of accounts at once. Threads on the other hand, incredibly minimal or links out to Meta settings which is super confusing. Why can't I control this from within the Threads app separately?

8. Feeds. Threads will quickly outperform due to their algorithms. Bsky uses community made algorithms. I can't speak too much to these, but I enjoy the ones Bsky has by default. I avoid feeds because it's often full of engagement bait. On that topic...

6. Appearance. I've got to technically give it to Bsky for actually having appearance settings. Threads by comparison makes a statement by sticking to a daring bold black & white theme. (No, the light theme doesn't exist. It's an illusion and if you believe otherwise, I pray for your battery life).

5. UI. Had to give this to Threads. They pull off a cleaner look with collapsable UI, leaving you with an uninterrupted view to get you endlessly scrolling. They also have tons of neat little features. Bsky is simple, which is fine! I prefer to not accidentally doomscroll for hours, thank you!

4. Videos is an easy one. Bsky uses a video player similar to X. Threads on the other hand only has a mute/unmute button and a video timeline that's annoying to grab on mobile- AND NO PAUSE BUTTON! WHY? This is a constant ongoing annoyance that occurs almost every other post. Bsky hands down here.

3. On the content topic, photos! I believe Bsky has less compression. I think I've grown to slightly prefer the carousel look that Threads has going. Bsky goes for the classic image grid which is nice and familiar. It would be cool if either app let us decide how this looks on our feed!

2. Content. Overall more enjoyable on Bsky. Threads, as a whole, feels like a blend of politics and reposts from X & Instagram. Bsky has tons of unique people and I'm truly seeing and engaging with people rather than engagement bait. I've also found more artists on Bsky than Threads!

1. Posts. First, Bsky needs drafts. Threads also has a much more convenient text limit!
Profiles. I much prefer how Bsky includes all posts (and reposts) on profiles as it sets the overall tone for your public image whereas Threads separates organic posts. Not sure why this might be the case.

As someone who is an avid YouTube watcher, I found this extension called untrap YouTube that lets you customize the platform. I removed everything in hopes it gets me to use it less. Here's hoping I gain time back that I can be productive with! (My new homepage and videos page, no comments too)
