As a scholar of the loyalists, I’ve been thinking about this. I don’t think analogy works because the dichotomy isn’t so simple. Many “loyalists” were labeled rather than espousing any commitment to the empire. Plus, the US government the patriots built ends up looking A LOT like the British one!
