Building on this momentum, last week, Charlotte hosted its first-ever Data & Analytics conference, where they welcomed back City Data Alliance coach, GovEx’s Practice Manager Alexx Baerwald Simard, to share insights on building a data-driven city.

“The better decisions we make based on data, the more efficiently we spend taxpayer dollars,” Mitchell added. “As residents are able to see more clearly what they’re getting for their money, it will engender trust, which we can’t have enough of these days.” -Mayor Mitchell

The strategy will guide the use of data across the city's workforce for years to come.

🎓Safiya U. Noble, Ph.D. is a scholar and author illuminating how data systems can perpetuate inequality and bias. She is a 2021 MacArthur Foundation Fellow recognized for her work on algorithmic discrimination.
