(...) and not in the sun as assumed by some narrative sources after the Castilian conquest in the 15th century. Other species associated with the first phases of the faunal succession would point in the same direction.

Most of these insect remains belong to the first waves of cadaveric decomposition, with Chrysomya albiceps standing out. These data could indicate that the decomposition of the bodies took place inside the cave (...)

In this paper we analysed the insects associated with a multiple burial cave on El Hierro (Canary Islands, Spain), on the southwestern edge of the Palearctic Region. This cave was used by the Bimbape population between the 6th and 11th centuries BC to deposit their dead.
