There are European companies like Proton that are staring to provide competitive products. So a shift towards these to enable re-investment would go a long way.

I believe Norway need to be on this ball ASAP, if Trump takes Greenland, Russia will use it as an excuse to «safeguard Russian interests» in Svalbard

Why so many different systems?

I guess the main thing it shows is that he is actually under some political pressure to change his stance on Ukraine (though in practice he himself has not changed his position)

Regarding common platform it’s a bit of a shame the swedes did not decide (or even consider?) to licence the Pohjanmaa class.

I guess if they still insist on 30+ knots it won’t work, but otherwise would have been nice to see the Pohjanmaa on both sides of the Baltic.

It will have 5-6 first rate frigates and about 30 OPVs in small (<1000 tonnes) and large (3000-5000 tonnes possibly ice classed) size, which will be acting as patrol vessels, mine hunters and ersatz corvettes (but are probably to vulnerable in the confined waters of the Baltic)

Norway already have a quite a concrete plan for the navy, and doesn’t really include corvettes.

Well DNV did give it a class rating, if they were informed of the shafts or not is unclear.

But the Norwegian government tried to sue DNV but failed: rett24.no/articles/dnv...
DNV tilkjent 4,3 mill i sakskostnader etter «Helge Ingstad»-søksmål
Etter at Havarikommisjonens rapport ble klar, frafalt staten søksmålet på 14 milliarder kroner. Advokatregningen blir saftig likevel.

I also assume the hollow shafts were present in the technical drawings used for certification etc, so I have a hard time believing the government can win this.

Navantia has said that many issues with the boats were known by the guvernement prior to the crash (unsure about the hollow shafts). So even if the boats were not up to specs, the government decided to sail them.

Why are they considered obsolete?
