Is the figure on the Sorokin getting their kit off or being provocative? Either way it’s unlike any committee meeting that I’ve ever attended.

Tangerine by Led Zeppelin. First repeat entry for an artist gets a special mention because I heard it in @paperbackbookshop.bsky.social today. youtu.be/KaFjxLMsOuo

It is. Even the original cocktail recipe of 2 parts gin, I part lemon juice plus sugar syrup was too sweet. I omitted the sugar syrup and reversed the ratio. Much more refreshing.

I love it mixed with fresh lemon juice and soda.

I agree with James because of the pervading sense of 'Kool-Aid' with Trent Dalton. It's a sense that could quite easily lead to his books being used as high school texts, if not already. Perish the thought.

Ta, I'll have a look.

No, I haven't. I'd stopped watching SBS because of the ads. Would make an attempt at watching it for this documentary.

I did buy a bass guitar many years back. A complete lack of finger co-ordination stopped any musical career daydreams. One of my nephews was happy to have it handed to him many years later.

A review that prompted me to buy, read and love the book.

Fairytale of New York by The Pogues with Kirsty MacColl. Love this song but it’s still November FFS. youtu.be/j9jbdgZidu8

Go on, it's only one more book.

Highly tempting, especially so with Kevin Young being the editor of the collection. He edited African American Poetry: 250 Years of Struggle & Song a few years back. It's one of my favourite poetry collections.

Bloody good, Martin. Listened to it this morning. Cheers for the prompt.

I've only seen positive comments which I'm hoping is a good sign.

Good point. Thought it looked familiar.

I'm happy that I have the Polygon edition, even with the Booker spruik.

When I recommended The Safekeep to a friend earlier this year I described the release of repressed queer desire as almost volcanic.

I think I only saw the tail end of the heyday and left when the current shouty era begun. Bluesky is too quiet but I'm also thankful that it appears to be a safe space. At least that's my experience. I would be disheartened to learn that it wasn't the same for others.

Apart from completely missing the point of the series it looks like a file unearthed from a filing cabinet which was lost in the 1950's and not the 1850's when the story is set.

I wish I could say I like the original Polygon Books cover on the right but sadly the booker spruik completely ruins it.

I could be one of a few voices here that do appreciate what you post. Was offline for family reasons last week so I didn't reply to your piece on The Mushroom Tapes. I only read it because I thought it would the only sensible thing I would read about the book. Wasn't disappointed.
